BIO

Chrissie Wolf is a contemporary textile artist and co-founder of Birrin Birrin Studio, working across weaving, crochet, and emerging painting practices. Her work explores material, warmth, and the relationship between body, object, and environment.

Working with raffia, wool, and fibre-based techniques, Wolf creates woven works, crochet pieces, and wearable forms that sit between art and function. Her practice is grounded in process and material sensitivity, with each piece developing through repetition, texture, and intuitive construction.

Her work includes handcrafted garments, blankets, and textile-based artworks that carry both visual and physical presence — designed to be held, worn, or lived with. Alongside this, she is expanding her practice into painting, extending her material language into new forms.

Working both independently and in collaboration, Wolf contributes to a shared studio environment that supports sustained creative practice and experimentation. Her approach emphasises intuitive making and the gradual development of visual language over time.

In 2026, she exhibited alongside Tom Wolf in Threads of Country: Totems, Time, and Transformation at Obsidian Bide Art Gallery & Studio, presenting both individual and collaborative works.

As part of Birrin Birrin, her practice sits within a broader platform connecting art, lived experience, and alternative support structures.

👕 2. Wearable Art & Garments

I create a small number of crocheted textile works each year, ranging from smaller throw pieces through to large-scale, fully custom blankets.

Commissions typically range from $900 – $6,000+ depending on scale, material, and complexity.

Wearable and large-scale textile works are quoted individually.

If you’re interested in a commission, get in touch to discuss scale, colour, and timeline.

A 50% deposit is required to secure all bookings.

Due to the time-intensive nature of handcrafted textile work, not all enquiries can be accepted. Selected projects will be responded to within 5 business days.

When enquiring, it’s helpful to include:

– Desired size (throw, queen, king)

– Colour direction or references (if any)

– Timeline (if you have one)

– Location for delivery

This allows me to respond with accurate pricing and availability.

Process & Care

Each piece is handcrafted using fibre-based techniques including crochet and weaving. Due to the time-intensive nature of this process, works are created slowly and with attention to detail, material, and structure.

No two pieces are identical. Variations in texture, form, and finish are part of the work and reflect its handmade nature.

Garments and textile works should be handled with care. Where applicable, gentle hand washing and proper storage are recommended to maintain the integrity of the piece over time.

Commission timelines vary depending on scale and complexity. Larger or detailed works may require extended making periods.

These works sit between object, garment, and artwork — designed to be both experienced and lived with.
